The use of AI

The rapid growth of the use of artificial intelligence has led to certain issues in publishing that HAMK, as a publisher, must respond to. We aim to promote the responsible sharing of high-quality information and want to ensure that the expert knowledge disseminated in the name of HAMK is reliable and relevant.

We at HAMK Pilkku act in accordance with the criteria of the Ministry of Education and Culture. In order for the authors to be eligible to report our publications to the data collection, the publications must be based on the authors’ expertise and their own thinking. The use of AI is not strictly prohibited in our publications, but we require all our authors to use AI responsibly and to describe its use.

The ultimate responsibility for the accuracy of the text, data, and conclusions, as well as for scientific integrity always remains with the author. AI is treated as a tool, just like statistical software or text processing programs, but we require absolute transparency regarding its use.

All manuscripts submitted to HAMK Pilkku must be accompanied by a statement regarding the use of artificial intelligence (click here to access the form). The editorial team will review the information provided and determine the extent to which it needs to be disclosed in the final text.

The editorial board also reserves the right to reject the text based on the information provided and the editorial board’s own evaluation.

The use of AI in creating publications

You can use AI for ideation and structuring, but it cannot be used to produce entire writings. The majority of the content in all publications must be created by a human. Please also note the following:

  • Do not use AI as a source, unless your research specifically examines AI-generated content. In that case, clearly note the prompts used, the AI-generated output received, the date, and the AI service URL.
  • Do not use AI to generate images intended solely for illustrative purposes. This is to help reduce the environmental impact of AI and to address copyright concerns. However, if an AI-generated image is part of the material being discussed and analyzed in the text, its use is permitted.
  • Indicate the use of AI at an appropriate point. If the manuscript contains content created by AI, display the prompts used.

The use of AI in editorial work

We do not use AI to review or edit the manuscripts submitted to HAMK Pilkku. If the editorial staff wishes to use AI in any way during the editorial process, this will be agreed upon separately with the author. The author may refuse such usage if desired.
